We built our house first.
We had to cut down many trees and build a road.
We had lots of junk to clean up!
We built our small barn next.
We moved our first 3 geldings into their new home, American Express, Denali and Tahoe.
We built one large pen for the boys. We used the natural sand on the site for the floor.
We built a temporary paddock using t-posts and 5 foot high wire.
I made our first farm sign from a single bed.
And then we...changed everything! The paddock fencing was hand dug and replaced with wooden posts and styles.
And when our 4th gelding, Discover came we had to add a separation barrier down the paddock due to American Express attacking him.
This caused our small herd to be separated into American Express and Tahoe on one side and Denali and Discover on the other!
We changed the pens by using wooden slats and 5 foot high wire.
Then the time came that little Discover grew and with the help of Denali could stand up to the herd leader, his brother American Express. The boys were one herd.
We chose our site for our barn and bulldozed many trees down!
and clean up.....
and clean up.....
and clean up.....
and clean up....
I turned my lemons into lemonade by incorporating some of the junk into the cleaned up landscape!
and voilla!
We cleared an acre of forest for our first pasture.
The boys finally had a pasture to enjoy!
We added our foundation Dam, Shakira and her yearling daughter Tempest and her first male cria, Liam Padriag. We put the boys in the left pen and paddock.
We added our first addition to the barn, a 2 car garage for tractors!
I refinished our first farm sign.
And then Ariel and Misty came to our farm.
We added a 2nd addition to the barn. We now had a structure that was 3 times larger!
Shakira delivered Kieran right before my eyes in the paddock.
This meant that yearling Liam had to be separated from his family for the first time. He went to live with the boys. He was not happy!
We added 8 chicks to the farm.
They free range with their alpaca friends!
My husband made a great chicken coop in the barn. They are safe and can free range behind the predator proof fencing!
The alpacas are great with their chicken friends!
Ariel delivered Aidan two months later, also right before my eyes. I was able to record it all with my camera!
I made my 2nd farm sign!
We cut down even more trees for our second pasture.
Our 2nd pasture is roomy.
We replant new trees every year....
and plant.....
and plant.....
Just when you think you are done!
and plant....
And now you think it would be time to sit back and .......
....enjoy the fruits of your 8 years of labor...but Tom has an idea to increase the paddock size for the girls and...I haven't even told him of my vision for a 3rd pasture!
